You have to love living in America. If it is bigger it must be better and there will always be someone trying to make money off that fact. We super sized our value meals, we blew up our sports poster to life size dimensions, and we have let our waists challenge our fingers ability to snap a pair of pants. When I was a kid we had bean bags to sit on. Now my kids have ever larger bean bags that are sold for the price of what I paid for my first car.
When we moved into our new house about 5 years ago we bought some floor pillows for the kids to use in the basement to watch television or read. Now there are mammoth floor pillows. My kids just asked me for one of these though and I told them to wait until college. It got me to thinking about how I was in college and how many things have stayed the same. I think the new floor pillows look like beds for your unexpected guests to sleep on.
There must be a market though, because more designs are coming out all the time. These are not cheap either, you can expect to pay nearly $ 200 for the right to plant your entire body onto one of these.Who is buying these pillows on steroids? College age students are the prime target. College students can find these as the perfect studio apartment solution as both sofa and bedding. We had futons for this purpose when I went to school. At least these extra large pillows look more comfortable, even if awkward to get out of. They ship the biggest of these pillow s with the foam being compressed. I have no idea how you move this thing out of an apartment once it is uncompressed and in its full glory. I guess that is another thing marketers can take advantage of us.
We like to buy without thinking about the long term prospects.
A huge floor pillow may seem like a good solution, but be careful you are not creating a problem when the glory days of college are over and you have to move out of the dorm. As for my kids, they are not going to be getting one of these under my roof. If they really want a furniture/bed combination, I still have my futon in storage.
